Today marks the anniversary of the sinking of the World War I battleship SMS Szent István. The name may not ring a bell, but if you’re a fan of history – or YouTube, for that matter – you’re likely familiar with the sinking of the Austro-Hungarian dreadnought.
The Szent István is the only battleship whose sinking was filmed during World War I.
What would otherwise be a little-remembered ship from an empire that ceased to exist nearly a century ago has been resurrected by modern technology.
The loss of the Szent István has been seen by hundreds of thousands – if not millions – of viewers, thanks to YouTube and other high-tech means.
