Death allows Nazi henchman to cheat justice
08/02/2010
It appears another former Nazi has cheated justice, thanks in no small part to bureaucratic indifference and general ineptitude.
Erich Steidtmann, a former Nazi officer, died last Sunday in Hanover, Germany, at the age of 95.
Steidtmann, who joined the SS in 1933, was commander of a police unit, the Third Battalion of Police Regiment 22, that in the fall of 1942 guarded trains deporting Jews from the Warsaw Ghetto to the Treblinka extermination camp.
