One of SC’s oldest and best-known museums is embracing one of technology’s newest and most-popular features.

The SC Relic Room and Military Museum joined social medium Facebook last week. Fans can access the museum’s Facebook page here.

The Relic Room is SC’s military history museum. For more than a century, the museum’s mission has been to collect and preserve the military history of this state. Columbia’s oldest museum, the Relic Room covers the state’s martial tradition from the Revolutionary War to the present War on Terror.

Joe Long, the Relic Room’s Curator of Education, describes the museum as “professional, prestigious, as cutting-edge as a recently-sharpened Kraft, Goldschmidt and Kraft cavalry saber or an assistant surgeon’s Phillipine Insurrection bolo knife.”

Founded in 1896, the Relic Room collects and preserves SC military artifacts. A nationally known War Between the States flag collection, a significant SC uniform collection and a growing weapons collection are complemented by a historical archives collection and a 19th and 20th century textile collection, allowing the museum to interpret the political and social influences on SC’s military history.
